Description
This is an easy to use piece of apparatus for determining
the speed of sound in air by simply measuring the time
taken for sound to travel a known distance.
The unit contains two sensitive microphones connected by
a long cable to control circuity that will start and stop a
Lascells millisecond or microsecond timer.
In use a sharp sound is produced and the time taken
to travel the distance between the two microphones is
recorded on the timer (not included).
A single reading can be used or the separation between
the microphones can be varied giving a range of readings
which may be plotted on a graph.
An alternative approach is to omit the timer and monitor
the outputs on a dual channel storage or PC oscilloscope.
The apparatus is supplied with a 9V PP3 battery, a 6 metre
connecting cable and full instructions.
